The Leek & Moorland Model Gliding Association was formed on the 7th August 1973 by twelve members who's flying sites were under threat, so they each put £1.00 into a contingency fund for postage and phone calls etc. and the club was born. Three of the members volunteered to becoming Chairman ( Bob Mellor), Secretary ( Brian Adams ), and Treasurer ( Ivan Bradbury ), and after much corresponding with various landowners arrangements were made for the use of flying sites providing a yearly fee was paid.
Although the club was formed in 1973 many people had been using the sites since the 50's when 'primitive' single channel was all the rage, and free flight was probably the most popular form of gliding. Today the club has over one hundred members and four flying sites that are used all year round, a newsletter is distributed to all members to keep them up to date on issues and events, and competitions are held in the summer months.
